5 post-facial tips to make that great skin feeling last longer

Published on 26 September 2019 by Beth Ryan

A facial is a winning treatment, combining the soothing comfort of a massage, with majorly glowing skin. So you’re finished at the spa, and you’ve photographed that fresh, newborn skin (multiple, multiple times), what needs to be done to keep your face feeling fantastic? Here’s our top 5 tips for maintaining that post-facial feeling. Yep, you should probably book your next one, just to try them out.

    By Rachel Spedding

    • 1 Skip the coverage

Straight after a facial, your pores are freshly purged of oil and bacteria, so prevent it finding its way back in and lay off the makeup. This also allows for all those serums, creams, or peel, to show their full effect (you’ll be glowing without the highlighter – promise). Once you’re back at it with the makeup, make sure your brushes and applicators are fully clean to avoid breakouts.

    • 2 Break from cardio

No gymming for you post-facial (ah heck, what a shame). Heat and sweat can aggravate freshly exfoliated skin, so make sure to work out pre-appointment, should you want to. Same goes for saunas and steam rooms FYI, stay clear of overheating that plumped-up skin of yours.

    • 3 Drink up

You’re now freshly ‘purged’ of toxins – bliss. Keep up with the detox by drinking lots of water. H20 helps to plump out fine lines and increase that glow from within, so keep yourself hydrated 24/7. Just keep gulping (your skin will be thirsty).

    • 4 Suncream, always

Of course, sunscreen is a daily essential, but post-facial, your skin needs protection more than ever. Chemical exfoliants can leave skin a little more sensitive to the sun, and if it’s freshly peeled, that new-to-the-surface skin will need serious cover up. In fact, avoid sunshine altogether, if possible, for 24 hours. Or invest in a really, really big hat. The choice is yours.

    • 5 Don't bother your breakouts

Post-facial, a breakout is likely, as the treatment has got to work on extracting dirt and oil deep beneath the surface. Squeezing and picking can encourage further breakouts and even scarring.

Go on, test the theory – book a facial right here.
