5 moustache styles to try in November

Published on 10 November 2021 by Beth Ryan

November – the month of the moustache for many a brave chap (including three of our very own Treatwell-ers) who fancy tackling the challenge to raise money and awareness for men’s issues. Yep, that’s right. Get ready to see an inordinate amount of facial hair coming your way – all in the name of prostate and testicular cancer, suicide awareness, and mental health – very worthy causes, we think you’ll agree.

For those new to the ‘tache though – it can be a challenge in itself to know where to start with your new look. Fear not – we’ve broken down a few of the most popular moustache styles to inspire your mo’ journey. We’ve got you – now, get growing.

      1 The chevron moustache

The chevron moustache is worn thick and wide – it tends to follow the natural shape of the upper lip, and angles slightly downwards towards the corners of your mouth. The bottom edge stops just on the upper lip line – so some maintenance is needed to avoid the dreaded coffee-soaked-’tache each morning. A quick trim with the moustache scissors will be your best friend with this style – we promise.

      2 The pencil moustache

A big hitter in the 1940s with Hollywood heartthrobs such as Clark Gable – the pencil moustache is the pinnacle of moustache-sophistication. Bonus? It’s pretty easy to grow, even for those whose facial hair is on the thinner side. Following the shape of the upper lip, it’s worn super thin and almost straight (kind of like a pencil – get it?) A steady hand and a lot of patience are required here – or head to your barber instead.

      3 The Dali moustache

Salvador Dali’s moustache is *almost* as famous as the man himself – and it’s not hard to see why. Hypnotic, daring, and magnificently eccentric – the Dali ‘tache is one not for the faint of heart. For this style, you’ll need a good amount of hair (maybe not achievable in a month – but worth the long slog if you ask us). Add a shed-load of moustache wax each morning for that gravity-defying look, and you’ll be good to go.

      4 The handlebar moustache

Remember in 2012 when moustaches were inexplicably printed on everything from mugs to t-shirts? Well, picture that trend, and you’ll probably be picturing the handlebar moustache. Despite that weird phase in pop culture, the handlebar moustache has outgrown it’s hipster reputation – and remains incredibly cool, timeless, and classic. The shape, of course, is pretty self-explanatory, and is akin to the shape of the handlebars of a bicycle. Again, this style requires a bit of styling, combing, and moustache wax to keep it’s shape – so be ready to give it some TLC.

      5 The horseshoe moustache

Again, this one’s in the name. The horseshoe moustache (the go-to look of Hulk Hogan) is a full ‘tache that frames the lips and runs from the top lip to the chin, highlighting the shape of your jaw. Our advice: try it with a goatee for a statement look.
