5 low-maintenance haircuts that never go out of style

Published on 31 October 2021 by Beth Ryan

Trends come and go, but a signature hairstyle can last forever. As in, with regular cuts. We’d go so far as to call these easy-to-maintain cuts ‘timeless’. Plus, as they’re low maintenance, you’ll basically look like you’ve just left the salon even if you’ve barely lifted a finger.

      1 The pixie cut

Somehow, the pixie crop manages to be both rebellious and classic at the same time. The style has been gracing A-list heads since Audrey Hepburn wore it in the film Roman Holiday in the 1950s. Best of all, it's as low-maintenance as it gets – just add a bit of gel for texture.

      2 The sleek-and-chic bob

Rock the effortless French glamour look with a blunt bob. All you'll need is a Breton top and red lipstick and you'll look as though you're headed to the hippest bars on the French Riviera… OK, we're daydreaming again. To shake up this look, add a spritz of salt spray for Biarritz-style beach waves. (Yep – in our heads, we're soaking up the rays in southern France). More bobs this way.

3 Past the shoulders, with layers

Not the snappiest name, but this cut makes up for it in style. Soft layers add body and frame the face, so you'll look polished and pristine with just a little blowdrying. Simpler styles like this tend to suit the majority of us. Plus, they're easy to jazz up if you fancy a radical change – did someone say unicorn hair?

      4 The lob

Also known as the 'long bob'. The name for this style may be new(ish), but the style itself has been gracing the hair of the glitterati for decades. Whether you wear it curled with hot rollers or go for bleached waves, the shoulder-length version of the classic bob is as versatile as it is low-maintenance. Tick, tick.

5 Long with a blunt fringe

Refresh your look instantly by adding a blunt fringe. If your hair's long, play around with glamorous up-dos, and it's even more striking when it's worn down. Throw in some loose curls to give the style a feminine twist, or straighten for the kind of businesslike sophistication that would make your mum's eyes water with pride.
